Button Soap for Spring

I recently sent our several sets of these for a bridal shower and want to share the fun with you too. It was fun to find just the right packaging for these life sized buttons. I wanted them to be seen yet they also needed to be pretty at the same time. I think they turned out pretty good. When the soap is gone you will be able to use the organza bag to hold other treasures.

I reently was told by another friend and long time customer that her order of button soap she took the soap out of the clear plastic wrap I use to keep the soap clean and fresh, and put them back in the organza bag and she placed the entire set in birthday package of vintage pillow cases. She said the entire time the package was sitting waiting to be opened everyone at the party was wondering where the mouth watering smell was coming from. I just love to hear all the creative ways our soap is used.

These are made with natural goats milk soap. These pretty sage green organza bags each have 12 cute little buttons in them. They have the random scents of vanilla, raspberry and toasted almond.

Puzzle Pieces

We have been having so much fun with these puzzle piece soap. There actually was quite a bit of thought and trying things out that went into these tub treats. First I spent time talking with children every where I went on what their favorite smells were and what their favorite colors were.

I made sample bars in all the colors and scents suggested then handed the samples to them and asked their mums to let me know after several times in the tub which ones they ended up using and having the most fun with.

The winner for colors were the fun pastel green, yellow, pink and blue. The scent was the cotton candy by far. I had one complaint that kept being mentioned. That was the size of the individual pieces being to little for little hands to put the pieces together especially when the soap was wet. Well this would not do so I went on a hunt to find a better idea for these. I ended up with a mold that allowed thicker, chunkier pieces. Then back to the children I went. MUCH BETTER! They now could actually hold the wet soap and put the pieces together.

This is natural soap with no harsh chemicals added:

Sodium Cocoate-Coconut Oill

Glycerin- found in all natural soap, very moisturizing as it attracts moisture from the air

Propylene Glycol- for Consistency, a natural gas from the earth

Water- consistency, an aquifier

Sorbitol- a moisturizer made from corn

Sodium Stearate- for consistance made from coconut and palm oil.

These I packaged our puzzle pieces in a clear bag with a custom label and are available in our Etsy shop now. I just thought I would share a bit of the behind the scene work that goes into each unique product we offer. Its a bit of work but fun all the while we are doing it.

I recently made 18 sets of these for a birthday party and I heard from all the moms who brought them home how much their children enjoyed the puzzle piece soap and actually asked to take a bath. This made me laugh since Daisy always asks to take a bath it never dawned on me it might have something to do with all the fun children inspired soap she has sitting in the soap holder to choose from.

Finally catching up on things around the farm and I have had some time to make a few spring inspired bars of soap. I also finally had a chance to use a few of the new molds that have been sitting around and I have been dying to use....

This first one is the latest version of our Gardener's Soap. This formula of orange and rosemary essential oils along with the added ground pumice and cranberry seeds had proven to be a favorite around here and with our customer's as well.

This is my go to bar after a day of digging in the dirt. With spring on the way here I decided it was a good time to finish this one up because from what I hear spring has sprung in other parts of the country.

This is our new soap cake, Lavender scented and topped with dried calendular. Dried herbs can't get any more fall feeling than that now can they?

Unscented Oatmeal

There is something so nice about oatmeal soap. It's soothing and just the smell of it makes me feel better. These bars have no added scent or coloring, just the scent and coloring from the ground oatmeal.

Recently I had the chance to use this soap. We spent the day at the fair, it was windy cold and rained off and on. I know why? Well the horse pulls were going on and I wanted to watch every last second of it I could.

When I got home I was cold and my face and hands were wind burnt. Into the shower I went to warm up and used this soap. I felt like a new person, gone was that tight burning feeling.

Lilac Salt Bar

What started out as an experiment with sea salt turned into a wonderful and (I think) very pretty bar of soap.

I wanted to see how well some new pigment would color the sea salt without having to mix the pigment in some sort of liquid. It worked well.

I decided to layer the sea salt between some layers of soap so these bars ended up with sea salt on the bottom, top and a thin layer in the middle.

These bars ended up being around 3 ounces each and smell like lilac. This is a scent I can't get enough of lately, I think spring feaver is setting in. We don't have any snow to speak of, the last 2 major east cost storms missed us.

Shaving Soap

These cakes of shaving soap are infused with herbs with a bit of clay added to give this soap a little "slip" & "grip" for shaving.

These are extra moisturizing because there is also a touch of Shea butter and Jojoba oil added. Anyone who has shaved with regular bar soap or canned shaving cream knows how drying to your skin it can be.

They do lather like a regular bar of soap but are not going to act like canned shaving cream. They work very well and don't need all the extra "foam" shaving cream needs to hold those whiskers up and let the blade glide without digging in. The clay in here does that.

Chamomile- Bergamont & Manderine Orange scent with infused Chamomile and dried herbs sprinkled on top. A nice golden tint.

Lavender- Lavender essential oil & dried organic lavender infused in the soap and sprinkled on top. A pretty purple/blue tint.

Rose- Cottage Rose scent and infused with rose petals and rose hips. A pretty burgandy tint with dried petals and hips sprinkled on top.

Lavender Salve

We have been making this here for quite some time and it has been very popular. I make a batch of it every week, so you know its fresh. This takes a good 3 weeks from start to finish to make.

I use organic lavender buds and infuse them in olive oil in the sun, when ready organic lavender essential oil and bees wax is added along with a bit of vitamine E.

A salve for minor burns but has become very popular with our gardening friends and knitters too. They like that it moisturizes, conditions and absorbs into their skin very quickly. I have one customer who is a seamstress and uses two tins every week in her shop. It's a good thing she is close by and I go into town every week, so I can drop it off for her.

For those of you who already use this nice salve, this is the same as you always have used, just new labels.

Lavender is one of my favorite herbs and sadly only 2 varieties will grow here on the farm with any success. I'm hoping to add more to the herb beds this summer to try and keep up with the demand for this salve. Right now I am using buds from a wonderful organic farm in Maine. The color is just beautiful so if you notice a bit of a purple/blue tint it's the lavender and not color added to the salve.

Lavender is a nice calming herb with great healing properties, anti-viral and anti-bacterial, a natural antiseptic. I have been told that this helps fussy babies nod off to sleep with a gentle head-to-toe massage using our salve. I haven't tried it myself yet but can see how it would. Lavender is very good to help one sleep.

These reusable tins hold about 1 ounce/ 2 fluid ounces of salve.

Blueberry Lotion Bars

I would like to thank everyone for a great holiday here at the farm. Sales were very good and I sent packages out to all corners of the country, Canada and even 2 down under.

My latest creations from the kitchen are these wonderful Blueberry Solid Lotion Bars. I was thinking something for Valentines Day...and all that came to me was how much I LOVE blueberries, picking them, eating them and cooking with them.

So....Blueberry it is. Each of these tins contains 2 one half ouce bars of this great lotion. And since it's Valentines Day I decided I will pay the postage from now until February 14, 2010 for all orders.

Lotion Bars

These have been very popular the past few months since I started offering them at the craft fairs.

So what exactly is a lotion bar? Well its lotion without the water. A solid bar of moisturizing oils and butters neatly packed into a tin. To use them simply hold in your hands for a few seconds while the heat of your hands gently warms them then rub into those dry rough spots that pop up this time of year.

These cute tins contain 2 bars of lotion and the tins are reusable and can be recycled. Just the perfect size to carry in your bag. They are a bit geasy at first so they also could be used for a quick massage, but the oils and butters absorbe quickly and the arrowroot powder helps too.

Contains: grape seed and sweet almond oil, green tea, bees wax, cocoa and shea butter, arrowroot and fragrance.

The Cottage Rose is by far the most popular scent, it reminds me of the rose garden early in the morning. Pepperberry is fruity and spicy at the same time, while the Blackberry & Sage makes me hungry everytime I smell it.

Lavender & Rosemary Bath Melts

This time of year with the cooler weather my skin gets so dry and I look forward to those hot baths to warm me up after a day working outside. Yes, fall is here and we are already wearing light weight jackets and gloves to do the morning and evening chores. The heat has been on for a week or so now and only comes on in the evening, by mid morning the sun has warmed the house enough.

I have been playing around with some wonderful oils and butters I have here and made these.

As you know I love to give stuff away so my niece brought home with her a couple of these to try out. She called me right up and said she just loved them. From the size of the bars I cut she said she only needed to use 1/4 of a bar for her bath and she loved the dried lavender and rosemary!

These are mostly cocoa butter & palm oil both are very good for dry skin. These are not soap, they are moisturizers for your tub. There is a bit of baking soda and sea salt to soften the water and a good amount of lavender essential oil. On top is sprinkled dried lavender buds and rosemary. The heat from the warm tub water releases their scent and it is so relaxing.

My niece is right I only used 1/4 of the bar in my tub so they will last for several uses. Each bar is between 3-4 ounces. What a great value for such a treat.

I just love to get stuff to try out and I like to give stuff to everyone I know for them to try too. I was always told that's what a good hostess does.....The past few months I have been adding a surprise item in with every order sent out. You never know what it may be, maybe a new product I am trying, or one not listed here yet or even one already here.

I thought it might be a good idea to let everyone know what exactly it is incase you have already decided to order that product and to let you know what will soon be available here.

Jewel Weed Salve

This is the first of September and the Jewel Weed is in full bloom. I just love this plant. I love the beautiful flowers, I love the healing value of this plant and I love playing with the seed pods. When you touch fully ripe ones they burst open and send the seeds flying. Great fun.

Summer often brings poison ivy rashes while haying and it will soon be fall here and that means it’s time to cut back the brush, rake up leaves and another round of poison ivy. Sad but true, no matter how hard we try someone always catches it.

Fresh Jewel Weed leaves and stems picked fresh from the plant are the best choice when using this to cure poison ivy. But when it’s not in season what do you do? Well around here I make salve, soap, and freeze the stems and leaves in ice cube trays.

Freezing fresh leaves and stems is easy. Simply pick the leaves, flowers and stems, cut them into small pieces and place into a container with a pouring spout on it, a glass measuring cup works great for this. Place the cut plant in the measuring cup and add enough distilled water (tap water will work too.) to just cover the plant material. Let this sit overnight on the counter, the next day pour it, plant material and all into ice cube trays and freeze. When frozen place the cubes into a storage container in the freezer until you need it. When you do need it, simply rub the frozen cube on the rash and it should help a great deal.

Salve has been popular around here too. My sister has used I bet 6 containers of it herself this summer. She always catches it from the hay, or from the dogs who run through the stuff then love up to her…. Not much she can do about it, around here house she has removed all the plants but the fields and woods around her house are full of it. She doesn’t want to keep the dogs tied so it’s a given she will catch it before the season is out.

She also uses this salve before going out into the yard to work as a barrier on her skin, works well for her and she swears by it. When she is done into the shower to use the Jewel Weed soap to help break down the poison ivy oils.

Yarrow Salve

Yarrow has the well-known ability as an antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-styptic (stops bleeding). Very good for insect bites, paper cuts and any other little painful cuts. Dog Collars

Bright fun patterns for you pooch. These adjustable collars are made with 4 layers of cotton fabric and 4 layers of interfacing, they are STRONG.

Dalton has been wearing one all summer and it is very comfortable on him. The side release buckles are contoured to fit their neck better than the straight buckles so many collars have. The D ring and side release buckle are both heavy duty and will hold up well.

These wash in the washer fine and hang to dry.

How to measure your dog's neck.

For a proper fit, measure your dog's neck with a cloth seamstress's tape measure. or you can use a string and measure that with a regular ruler.

1. Take a measurement a few inches down from his head and then add an inch for very small dogs or two inches for medium and large dogs.

2. Pull the tape snug but not tight.

3. Add either 1 or 2 inches to that mesurment. 1 inch for very small dogs and 2 inches for medium and large dogs.

When the collar is on his neck it should allow you to slide two fingers under a properly fitting collar and your dog's neck. If there's extra room, you need a smaller size. If both fingers don't fit, the collar is too small.
A collar shouldn't be either tight or loose around your dog's neck. A snug fit is what you are aiming for. You will need to also check it frequently.

As with any product proper use and supervision will ensure you pets safety.

Loofah Soap

Wonderful scrubbing and exfoliating loofah with the soap right in it. Our's has a handy rope too.

This loofah is grown local and you might remember me telling you I trade baked goods for these. That's a tradition that has gone on for a few years now. So far this year the loofah aren't growing all that well with the cool weather and rain we have been having, so I'm not sure if there will be any or not.

I Recently made several of these as teacher's gifts at the end of the school year. I put them all in a basket so each teacher could choose their own. The mom who ordered them said they were a hit!

The over all size of each loofah will vary a bit, but most are 3.5-4" in diameter, the weight of soap is 4 ounces.

I have been handing these out the past couple of weeks and the vote is in. Everyone who has tried this spa soap loves the scent and feeling of it in the tub or shower. It's a wonderful change from the ordinary. Made with nearly 1/2 salt this bar is smooth and long lasting.

Salt is a wonderful at gently exfoliating your skin, one would think this to be rough but actually as the salt mixes with the soap and water it is very soft yet a bit scrubby. It works good on those dry summer legs!

I use pure lavender essential oil not a fragrance. Lavender has a calming effect yet up lifting at the same time.

The rose is a fragrance oil and strong enough that the scent lasts the entire use of the bar. With so many rose fragrance oils the scent is gone before the soap, but not with this one.

Since these are hand made weight will vary a bit from bar to bar, they are around 2 ounces each.

Healing Salve

I have been making and using this Healing Salve for quite some time now, it's actually a hard item to keep around here. When I first started making it, I gave out tins of it to everyone I ran into. They keep coming back for more and giving my name out to their friends.

My intention was to create a salve that would actually work on my Granddaughter's bum. She has such sensitive skin and even the slightest wetness in her diaper would give her the worst rashes I have ever seen. I tried every ointment on the market and even a few prescription ones. None worked all that well, that little bum would be bleeding sore for days. This salve will clear up her diaper rash overnight.

This salve contains no petroleum products like many of the over the counter products and the herbs and essential oils are certified organic or wild harvested. Many coming from right here on the farm.

I talked to herbalists, local farmers and anyone else who would talk to me about the herbs I was using or wanted to use and read all I could find. After several changes to my original recipe I am satisfied with this version and think you will be too.

This salve goes everywhere with me, I keep a tin in my back pack, in the car and in my saddle bags. These 2 ounce tins will last a long time. If the sun should heat it up it will re harden when it cools back off, but you will want to try and keep it from melting because it will run out of the tin and stain.

Last summer a friend of mine came down with a good case of poison ivy after haying a field. Again this salve surprised me, it stopped his itch and cleared up the rash in a few short days. He didn't suffer from the common problem of the rash oozing and weeping like it usually will.

It works well on any scrapes, irritations and minor burns. Because it contains Jewelweed it works well on poison ivy. It also contains Confrey and this herb is know to heal wounds quickly so don't use it on deep cuts or puncture wounds that need to heal from inside out.

Comfrey, Jewelweed, Chamomile, Calendula & Lavender infused in a grape seed oil, beeswax, tee tree, Essential oils and Vitamin E.

Cotton Dish Cloths

Every well stocked country kitchen needs to have these durable 100% cotton dish cloths. They do a great job at scrubbing even the toughest pans.

Here at the farm these are the ones I use. I get a clean one out every morning and the dirty dry one is tossed into the laundry. They launder very well and the stitching becomes even tighter after the first few washings. Afere each wash the stitching becomes tighter and your silverware won't get stuck in the holes.

Oh' they will become stained because you will use them to wipe up spills, wipe down the counters and stove top. Once they have out lived their prettiness in the kitchen, they make their way to the cleaning rag pile to be use for washing walls, floors even the cars.

Eventually they will find their way to the barn and have another life cleaning up around there. Washing down tack and even giving the horses a bath.

When finally they will make their way to the compost pile. You will want to be sure they are rinsed clean of any soap before adding them to the compost pile.

We use the white in the bathroom for washing up with. This way everyone knows they are for washing people only. :)

Tucked into a basket with a few natural cleaning supplies or a hand made bar of soap they would make a nice gift for just about any occasion. In fact I often will use them as wrapping paper around a bar of soap and a pretty bow for birthdays or a just because I was thinking about you gift.

Things have a way of coming and going around here so if you don't see something that was here, let me know I'm sure I can get or make more. I love the challenge.

Most items are here and ready to ship but sometimes I do get behind a bit. This is a working farm and there are animals to care for, children that need hugs, meals to cook, canning and preserving, gardening, cleaning and who knows what else going on here daily.

If for some reason I should get behind, I will let you know when to expect your package. But more often than not packages are mailed out on Monday and Thursday. If you need it sooner just let me know. I can't tell you exactly how long it will take for your package to arrive, that would depend on where you live.
